Dr. Merthia Haynie D.P.T.

Dr. Merthia Haynie, a native of Reedville, Virginia, has been dedicated physical therapist for over 10 years. Merthia graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology. While at Hampton University Merthia volunteered her time in local physical therapy outpatient facilities before making a decision to pursue a career in physical therapy. In 2005, Merthia was one of the first graduates of the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at University of Maryland Easter Shore. Upon graduation Merthia has had opportunity to treat patients and gain expertise in the outpatient, home health, and skilled nursing facility settings. Merthia is well-versed in a broad range of physical therapy programs, treatments and modalities for restoring function and mitigating disability to injured patients. Most recently in 2012, Merthia obtained a Certificate of Advanced Practice in the Hand and Upper Quarter Rehabilitation. She opened the doors of Abilities Abound Physical Therapy in 2014, and has grown practice to provide multiple therapies, holistic services, and wellness needs of the community.
Kayla Haynie, L.P.T.A., Physical Therapy Assistant
Kayla Haynie is a native of the Northern Neck and a 2010 graduate of Northumberland High School, in which she was a member of the Rappahannock Scholars Program. Kayla has been a part of our staff since opening in 2014, in which she worked as a Physical Therapy Technician. Upon graduation, Kayla attended the University of Mary Washington (UMW) in Fredericksburg, VA. In July 2014 Kayla completed her training at Medical Careers Institutes, College of Health Science by ECPI University in Newport News, VA and graduated with an Associates of Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant. She is a certified in Kinesiology Taping Practitioner, certified PWR! Therapist, certified Clinical Instructor, and is also a trained Motives Cosmetics Beauty Advisor, specializing in custom blend foundation. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two children and husband, who serves in the United States Navy.
Carol B. Lane L.P.T.A., Physical Therapist Assistant
Carol Lane, or better known as C.J., has been a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant for six years. She is a native of Northumberland County where she continues to reside with her two sons Bryant and Charlie. C.J. attended Medical Careers Institute, College of Health Science By ECPI University in Newport News, VA where she earned her Associates of Applied Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Over her six years of practice, and as a student clinician, she has worked in the following settings: skilled nursing, hospital, home health, and outpatient facilities. Her special interest are in sports injuries, manual therapy, kinesiotaping, lymphedema management and she is certified in aquatic therapy. In her free time she enjoys reading, hunting, fishing, and being with her boys.
Andrea Eichler has been a Physical Therapy Assistant for 17 years and has her Associates of Applied Science from Darten College. Originally from Georgia, Andrea is new to the Northern Neck as of 2017 from her long time home in Maryland. Her certifications include experience in Manual Therapy Techniques, Aquatic Therapy, CPR, and she is a Silver Sneakers Classic Instructor. Andrea has had experience in both hospital and outpatient rehab facilities. She enjoys gardening, kayaking, quilting, and spending time with her family.
Brittany Mcgeorge, Physical Therapy Technician
Brittany Mcgeorge attended Bryan University and obtained an Associates degree in Advanced Health and Fitness. Brittany previously worked in an out patient setting where she trained and learned the necessary skills needed to work one on one with patients. Brittany's passion is fitness and helping others achieve a better well being. She is also certified in Silver Sneakers and has several classes that she teaches here at our facility. She loves working with individuals to help them become the best they can be. Outside of work, Brittany loves to spend time with her two beautiful boys Landon and Kai.
Sara Hugate, Physical Therapy Assistant,
Sara Hugate began with Abilities Abound in April of 2017. Sara attended Medical Careers Institute, College of Health Science by ECPI University in Newport News, VA where she earned her Associates of Applied Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Her special interests are in manual therapy, balance training and neurological disorders. She is a certified PWR Moves Therapist. She has previous experience in the medical field working as a CNA, and experience working with children as a behavior counselor at Cumberland Children's Hospital. Sara enjoys spending her free time gardening, boating, and spending time with her three children and husband.
Rajaa Shabazz was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 20, 1998. She graduated from Northumberland High School in 2016 where she played basketball all throughout high school. Rajaa suffered from an ACL tear in 2014 and was admitted to Abilities Abound for her Rehab and enjoyed being here and made the decision there to go to school for Physical Therapy. Rajaa is currently attending Rappahannock Community College for her associates degree and will transfer out to further her education. She enjoys shopping and family events in her spare time.
Michael Parker is a native of Northumberland County Virginia. Michael is a certified lifestyle weight Management coach, with the help of my wife Valerie Parker of 34 years. In over a year, I have coached over 25 people reach a weight lost goal in just 12 week, with the help of continued healthy eating. I educate clients, about nutrition and lifestyle management, the tools needed to improve your well-being. One of the best strategies in lifestyle weight change is having a change of mind, changing habits and getting real lasting results. A coach will be there guiding and correcting you along the way, holding you accountable and giving encouragement to help you achieve a specific goal that will change your life.
Daina Fawn Cockrell
Daina fell in love with dance at the age of eleven. Daina used dance to support her through some difficult things in her life growing up as a child. It was the beginning of her using dance as a channel to heal. Her practice today in the worlds of dance, fitness, wellness, yoga and the healing arts that continues to feed her soul. Daina guides her clients through the beauty of physical movement to help them feel stronger and make positive changes in their lives by achieving health and fitness goals. She loves to share dance as a gateway to deepening connection to the present movement. Daina is the founder of TranscendDance, a unique fusion of Energy balancing, global dance, spiritual arts, and yoga. Daina creates conditions ideal for tapping into a mediative state, channeling one's higher self; to quiet the overactive mind and hear the small, still voice of the heart.
Jenny began practicing in 1998 for the same reasons many of us do- to reduce stress, build strength and gain flexibility. She soon discovered that yoga offered so much more. In 2011 she completed her teacher training at Chesapeake Hot Yoga and opened Serenity Yoga in 2014. She is also a certified personal trainer and Pilates Instructor. Believing that everyone can benefit from yoga, her goal is to help students develop a practice that is meaningful, sustainable, joyful and healing
Kathleen began her yoga journey at Glenmore Yoga in Richmond, VA. After a ten year practice she decided to become a yoga practice she decided to become a yoga instructor in 2008 in order to share her love and enthusiasm of the many benefits of the yogic lifestyle. She teaches private and group yoga classes in Richmond, Kilmarnock, Heathsville, and Callao. She also leads group retreats and Yoga Alliance certified teacher training program. She is a passionate believer in the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of this path of life. She is grateful for her teachers near and far.
Brandon Jones is a native of Northumberland County Virginia. He is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Brandon specialize in weight loss and sports performance. He is also a group ex instructor offering moderate to high intensity classes to those seeking an high energetic environment. He has a passion for maximizing the potential of all clients and helping them reach their goals. Brandon's hobby is bodybuilding/powerlifting.
Kathy Shirilla RN
Katharine Shirilla is a native of Heathsville in Northumberland County. She graduated from Northumberland High School and then graduated from Johnston Willis Hospital School of Nursing in Richmond, VA. After working for many years as an RN, her interest turned to natural health after getting her own health turned around through natural means. She graduated from Trinity School of Natural Health in Indianapolis, IN in October 2014 with her certification as a Natural Health Professional. She is also a Certified Lifestyle Weight Management Coach. She is married with two grown sons and when she is not helping others to improve their health through improving lifestyle changes, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, reading, and needle crafts.
Pam M.H. Bragg
Pam Hinson Bragg is a Usai Holy Fire Reiki Master/Practitioner and Relaxation Instructor at Abilities Abound Physical Therapy in Callao, Virginia. When Pam is not providing Reiki for her clients or teaching, she is working on writing her book, blogging at the Power of This Moment with Pam Bragg or having fun with her Family and Friends. Medical Office Receptionist
Lara′ Johnson is a native of the Northern Neck and graduate of Northumberland High School. Lara′ has an educational background in Early Childhood Education and Human Services. She has attended Pan American Business School, J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, and VCU. Lara′ served as Executive Secretary to the Director of Admission at VCU for 25 years. She has recently returned to the Northern Neck to be with family and enjoy a peaceful life while giving back to the community she loves. Her hobbies include quilting, crafts, and gardening.
Britney Taylor is from Tappahannock, Virginia and a graduate of Essex High School. Britney's background is in durable medical equipment but decided to join Abilities Abound in 2017 as office manager. Britney is the mother of a eight year old girl, Abbie and the step-mother of a 12 year old, Sydney. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Robbie and the girls.
Peggy Newsome is a native of Richmond County who graduated from Rappahannock High School. Having spent 27 years in an Orthopedic practice, Peggy has spread her wings to Physical Therapy doing insurance authorizations. Peggy has been married to Michael for 40 years and has two children and five grandchildren. In her free time she enjoys gardening, photography and family time.
